ABOUT

Modern electronic equipment can be a challenge when things go wrong and because of this it requires an engineer to be highly experienced in the electronics business. The array of audio-visual items in the modern home has exploded over the last decade. When I first started in repair business most homes would have just one Television possibly a modest HiFi system and maybe a radio and that would be it. The television would receive at best 4 channels and may have been in black and white only, how times have changed! In an ever changing world of electronic entertainment it is inevitable that at some point something is going to go wrong and when that happens you may need some help in getting things the way you want them. That's where I can help. With extensive experience in a wide range of products I can usually resolve a problem quickly and effectively and with a minimum of fuss.

From an early age I had a great interest in technical matters. I made my first repair at the age of 12, it was a neighbour's radio. I loved the fact that it was I that made it sing again, when previously it had been dead and useless. After leaving school I got an apprenticeship with a high street TV shop in Sevenoaks and soon discovered that my education was just starting, but this time doing something that I really enjoyed. The company also sponsored a 4 year course in electronics at West Kent College. After the closure of Strange Electrical's Sevenoaks branch, I took on a position as senior test engineer for the Rogers Loudspeaker factory, also in Sevenoaks and this greatly helped my understanding of acoustics and the electronics involved. After leaving Rogers in the 1980's I joined the team of engineers at Sevenoaks Hi-Fi and continued to expand my knowledge of the domestic electronics industry, from in-car entertainment to larger TV's and early computers. In the late 80's I took on a position as a systems test engineer with an industrial electronics weighing and control manufacturer, where my education was extended this time at the Mid Kent College. I learned more about high precision electronics and also computer controlled equipment, including the mathematics that went with it, gasp! Finding the need to spread my wings I responded to a call from an international company and found myself being offered a job in south Africa, where I enjoyed my free time as well as the time at work fixing televisions, audio and video equipment in and around Johannesburg. I continued to do this as the senior technician for a large national company after I returned to the UK in the 90's. However, not happy any more to be working for larger and consequently more impersonal busineses, I decided to start a small company repairing domestic electronics in and around Tunbridge Wells. The saga continues to this day with West Kent Audio and TV Repair services.
